The Surf Coast really lived up to its name last weekend with one of the biggest and best swells seen for some time exploding on the coastline.

Right in time for the weekend the swell increased very quickly on Friday and surfers awoke to a large, groomed groundswell providing solid waves from Torquay to Apollo Bay on Saturday morning.

Vantage points were at a premium by mid morning as many pulled over by the side of the road just to watch from the safety of their own cars.

Such a swell very early in February is quite uncommon and typical of a summer swell it was all but gone as the Melbourne weekend warriors headed home on Sunday afternoon leaving the local contingent scratching their heads that such a swell would come, and go, on a weekend.
