The weather has been sublime along the Great Ocean Road this week with still sunny days, and empty beaches. More hot weather is forecast this weekend however and there is talk of another Total Fire Ban Day on Saturday which may mean that many of the shops here will be closed, so its recommended that you plan ahead.

This weekend is also another long weekend, Labour Day Long Weekend, which celebrates the achievements of workers advocating for eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation and eight hours for rest.

The eight hour day was a campaign in the 1850s that brought about one of the most important changes to the rights of workers. Two major campaigns took place in both Sydney and Melbourne but it is the Melbourne movement that is widely known for successfully changing the general rights of workers for the better.

Today is also International Women’s Day and it’s a great opportunity for all of us at Great Ocean Road Real Estate to acknowledge, appreciate and thank all of the terrific and awesome women in our company.

In fact women make up 66% of our team whereby Australia wide, women comprise 47.9% of the workforce and 50.7% of the total population so we are certainly doing our bit for equal opportunity!
