Have you noticed the orange dogs popping up all over Wannon? Aireys has quite a few at the moment, sparking plenty of interest and conversation. These bright orange figures represent kelpies, not German shepherds. The kelpie is a breed developed right here in Wannon, specifically designed to help muster sheep in the rugged terrain near Casterton. Love them or not, it’s a clever marketing initiative that has certainly got people talking.
Mark Scotland, Vice President of the Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club and the 2024 Victorian Lifesaver of the Year, is a shining example of dedication and leadership in the lifesaving community. From starting as a five year old nipper to becoming a seasoned lifesaver, Mark has devoted his life to protecting Victoria’s beaches and mentoring the next generation. Over the past year alone, he has overseen 300 rescues, contributed countless hours to patrols, and embodied the true spirit of lifesaving. Congratulations, Mark, on this well-deserved recognition.
On a different note, the Aireys Inlet Music Festival is making its highly anticipated return in 2025, running from March 14 to 16. The lineup has been announced, featuring a mix of local and renowned acts, including C.W. Stoneking, Kutcha Edwards, Queenie, Vasco Era, Hana & Jesse Lee’s Bad Habits, BABBA, Owelu Dreamhouse, Cool Out Sun, Sweet Talk, Counterfeit, and local favorites Indie Wylie and the Reef Rats. Thanks to generous funding from Music Victoria, this year’s festival promises to be bigger and better than ever.
