APOLLO BAY- HERE & THERE
Club Renovation Moves Ahead
The long-awaited upgrade of the Apollo Bay Surf Life Saving Club has received the support of both the Federal Government and the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA).
In the absence of $8 million in funding for a full redevelopment which would have seen the existing building demolished and replaced with a new facility the club will refurbish the current building.
The works — which will utilise the $1 millon in Federal Government funding secured by the club in 2019 — will see internal works and minor exterior works transform the existing building to make it better able to cater for a growing membership and its increased role in public water safety.
Central to the works will the installation of a lift to provide disabled access, finally making the building compliant with building regulations, and an expansion of women’s facilities that reflect the fact that more than half of the club’s membership is now female.
ABSLSC Buildings and Maintenance Director Mike McCabe said the ABSLSC was looking to have planning works and approvals finalised within three months and the works fully complete in the first half of 2025.
