APOLLO BAY- HERE & THERE
COUNCIL TO CHIP IN FOR BAY RESERVE
A $200,000 Colac Otway Shire Council contribution will assist an upgrade of Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve, if the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority is successful in getting a Federal Government grant.
GORCAPA applied to the Federal Government’s Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program seeking $15 million to upgrade the Bay’s recreation reserve. The authority is seeking financial contribution from other partners to support the application and demonstrate active partnerships.
The council voted six to one to allocate $200,000 to the project, with the amount remaining the same regardless of the outcome of the council’s current application to the regional community sports infrastructure fund for an upgrade of the reserve’s cricket nets. The council is seeking a grant of $327,647 for the nets with a council contribution of up to $34,297.
Mayor Jason Schram said the investment in the reserve would be a great outcome for all the groups who used the facilities.
The upgrade to the reserve includes community sporting and tourism and accommodation projects, including redeveloped sporting pavilion including accessible and female friendly facilities, netball/tennis courts, sport lighting upgrades, cricket practice nets, publicly accessible playground including landscaping and pathways, and a white picket oval fence.
