OUR BACKYARD – LORNE

Lots to be proud of this week around our town! At International level we take our hats off to our Matilda’s. What an amazing display of teamwork, skill and an abundance of respect and admiration the ladies have and display for their team, its members and their supporters. The ladies should be super proud of their efforts, changing the face of women’s sport in Australia!

Closer to home, we congratulate our Lorne Surf Lifesaving Club volunteers who were awarded not only Youth Lifesaver of the Year, but Rescue of the Year award. This award was presented to a number of local Lorne lifesavers who assisted with three rescues performed on Christmas Day at Cumberland River. A true testament to why it is so important to getting involved with our local volunteer clubs and essential services.  Well done to all awarded!

Tomorrow see’s the conclusion of the CDFNL Football Netball Season. Our local boys and girls should all be proud of their efforts, a great season with some levels continuing onto finals. Our junior Lorne Dolphin football sides (under 14 & 18) have both struggled to fill the sides for a number of seasons, it is the with help of our semi-permanent Lorne homeowners that make the effort to travel to Lorne most weekends to ensure their kids hit the field and keep our local club alive.

Our under 18 coach and TV personality, Cameron Nugent has given a big portion of his winter to ensure this community spirit lives on and the kids get a run every Saturday morning. Do yourself a favour and listen to Cam’s interview with CDFNL Live of his story and commitment in keeping our junior Lorne club alive!! Listen here.
