OUR BACKYARD – LORNE

I love a pun, I also enjoy not starting my Mondays picking up neighbour’s rubbish bins that have been “cockastrewned”, hopefully this initiative will keep our environment free of litter and our wildlife healthy.

Starting next Monday, 13 November, Council will fit locking mechanisms to residents’ landfill, FOGO and recycling bins in Lorne to stop cockatoos from opening lids and pulling out rubbish.

Operation Lockatoo follows a trial of nine different locking concepts fitted to 500 kerbside bins across Lorne during the last two years.

The Litter Lock and BinM8 designs proved most effective during the trial and will now be fitted to 5,350 bins across Lorne.

The Litter Lock fitted to your landfill bin during the trial will remain on your bin. Locks will be fitted to your FOGO and recycling bin.

Lock fittings will occur every Monday and Tuesday (except public holidays) until April 2024.
