LORNE – GENERAL MARKET ROUND UP

The big news of the week has been the Reserve Bank of Australia’s decision to cut the official cash rate by 25 basis points to its lowest point ever at 2.5%.

RBA Governor Glenn Stevens said the rate cut was a wise move for the board as data released earlier this month found headline inflation was considerably weaker than expected.

On the back of the election announcement for early September and the 2.5% cash rate, both are welcome news to endeavour to further stimulate consumer spending and confidence.

I was interested to listen to Westpac’s Bill Evans last week who, having forecast Tuesday’s rate cut, explained why recent cuts had still failed to stimulate the economy. According to Mr Evans, unlike previous rate cycles, consumers have used the savings profited by rate cuts to pay off debt as opposed to increasing spending.

LORNE – WEEKLY REPORT

One of our exciting new innovations for the week has been the introduction of our mobile websites that are now in use across our entire company network. To get all the property information that you will ever need on the Great Ocean Road corridor, go to m.greatoceanroadrealestate.com.au and add the site to your home screen – it’s that simple!

The local football and netball clubs have their last home and away game this weekend and take on Alvie at Lorne’s Stribling Reserve oval. The Dolphins are unveiling their hybrid football jumper that is representative of Casey’s three clubs – Geelong Football Club, South Barwon Football Club and Lorne Football & Netball Club. Get up to Stribling Reserve and support the Casey Tutungi Appeal while at the same time cheering for the Dolphins as they prepare to launch their assault on the 2013 finals series.

If you can get up there early, hook over to the netball courts where Lorne’s talented U/15 side need to beat arch rivals Alive to remain undefeated for the season.
