Lorne – Market Round Up

I had the pleasure in attending a budget breakfast during the week hosted by Westpac Bank and listening to address by B.T. Chief Economist Peter Caton. It was a most interesting session across multiple topics but none more than the Budget. The major objection being that this budget should not come under the heading of a crisis budget. In his words “Australia does not even sit in the top twenty of the UEOLD’s countries most in debt” and although we have some issues to address we are not in the same territory as many of the European countries. One fascinating statistic to me was that the average house price of the combined Australian Capital cities has increased by only 4.5% (Melbourne 6.0%) over the past ten years. According to Caton, Australia’s regional areas would be further behind than their city counter parts. This is a broad brush similarity with the Lorne market where we have not seen much movement in our prices since the end of 2003/2004.

Lorne – Weekly Report

It has taken a while but the coastal market has shown its first signs of slowing in line with annual seasonal trends with buyers starting to go into hibernation as winter approaches. With still a good offering of property available the opportunity is strong for the year round Lorne lover, and with the Queen’s Birthday long weekend only a week away and the weather continuing to hold there is no better time to head down to the coast. If you are on the coast this weekend, get up to the Stribling Reserve to support the Dolphins as our local footballers and netballers go head to head with Otway Districts.
