OUR BACKYARD – AIREYS INLET

Wet Wet Wet. This is not just the name of 1990s pop band best known for the hit song ‘Love is all around me’ from the hit film Four Weddings and a Funeral. It is an apt description of the Great Ocean Road this week. Just like much of South Eastern Australia currently in the grip of the third consecutive La Nina weather event.

Whilst this horrible weather hasn’t provided any beach time at all this week with the sun only making its first brief appearance on Thursday, it has provided spectacular scenery at the waterfalls in the hinterland. Another lesser-known attraction of the area. Not quite as spectacular as the footage of the Wyangala dam in NSW spilling over this week but spectacular nevertheless.

Meteorologists had predicted another La Nina this year would bring floods and heavy rains to many parts of Eastern and Southern Australia bit it is expected to end in early 2023, probably around February. The earlier the better if you ask me! At least the sun is shining today but more rain is forecast over the coming days.
