Some hot weather is forecast tomorrow which will coincide perfectly for one of the biggest annual events on the Great Ocean Road, the Lorne Pier to Pub swim.

Widely recognized as the largest open water swim in the world the event was first held in 1981 and returns after two years of Covid cancellations with around 25,000 people expected to participate in the 1.2km swim.

It is also a timely reminder to be safe in the ocean and always swim between the flags. Already this year surf lifesavers around Australia have conducted around 3300 rescues and there have tragically been around 20 coastal drownings, none of which were at patrolled beaches.

Today will also see the Lorne Mountain to Surf run which is an 8km fun run starting in Lorne and continuing through the forest and then along the Great Ocean Road and finishing at the Lorne SLSC.

This weekend will also see huge numbers on the road on both Saturday and Sunday so please exercise caution and patience.
