Unless you have successfully buried your head in the sand over the past couple of months, you will know that Australians head to the polls tomorrow for a federal election. On a more positive note, the endless tv and radio ads will cease and hopefully all the signs that have popped up around town will be removed soon after Saturday.
Voting will be held locally at the Aireys Inlet Community Centre on the Great Ocean Road in Aireys Inlet. In Anglesea at the Anglesea Primary School at 85 Camp Road, in Lorne at Lorne Community Connect at 2 Otway Street and in Apollo Bay at the Apollo Bay Leisure Centre at 26 Costin Street.
In better news, many financial experts are tipping a couple of interest rate drops in the next few months. It is widely expected that a rate cut will occur this month with another likely in both August and November. We would expect that two or three drops prior to Christmas will augur well for a busy summer for sales on the Great Ocean Road.
In other news Surf Coast lad Xavier Huxtable won the Trials at Bells Beach this year. This put him into the main event where he shocked the surfing world by knocking the world number one out of the main event after returning from the local dawn service on Anzac Day. It caps off a big ten months for the talented young man from Torquay who was also an integral part of the Lorne Football Club’s senior Colac and District Football League premiership in 2024.
