Progress on the Apollo Bay Harbour precinct’s redevelopment is reportedly underway.
The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority indicated early works and demolition of the depot area would be complete in the next few months, with Major construction expected get underway in April, including the safe removal of all asbestos on site. The site will be closed off to the public for safety, including the Mothers Beach carpark that will be used by the contractor.
The temporary relocation of the Apollo Bay Fisherman’s Co-Op prior to the summer season has allowed structural engineers to get into the building and confirm requirements for the redevelopment while additional cultural heritage assessments and detailed planning continue.
Access Mothers Beach and the harbour sea wall will still be available to the community during construction via an alternate access track and the nearby Point Bunbury boat ramp will remain open throughout.
The project is funded through the Geelong City Deal and will deliver new public open space, upgrades to the Co-Op, a new outdoor viewing deck, a new hospitality space, return the wet fish market, improvements to the port operations depot and a new public toilet with a changing places restroom.
The project’s website lists completion for mid-2026 but a statement in October said the finish date would be closer to the end of this year.
