Lorne – Market Round Up
Over the past four weeks I have been updating you on a number of key statistics across the Surfcoast Shire, which in my opinion has been performing at a 10 year high and the benefits that Lorne have experienced unprecedented. In my opinion this can be put down to a couple of reasons. Firstly, the ability and performance of our first councillor since 2004, where the commitment and professional knowledge of Councillor Clive Goldsworthy has been outstanding. Secondly, the respect he has earned in working with council officers has seen our local councillor quickly become one of the most respected members of the Surfcoast Shire team.
Unfortunately this week I share with you that the Surfcoast Shire CEO Stephen Wall has resigned after two years in the top job. Stephen has accepted the role of CEO at the Maribyrnong City Council which is a major career advancement and although saddened by his loss we most certainly wish him well!
Lorne – Weekly Report
The month of August is quickly coming to an end and along with May, historically has been the smallest contributor to our annual sales turnover. This year has been no different to the past but in my opinion the signs continue to be good as we move quickly towards spring. Buyer enquiry through the month has been encouraging particularly given that a large proportion of sales over recent months have been to buyers whom have been searching for quite some time. However over the last four to six weeks it has been extremely encouraging to witness a number of sales to “first time lookers”, a category we haven’t experienced in the market place for a long time.
On a local note the town is gearing up for the Festival of Performing Arts on the last weekend in August which is shaping up to be their best yet. And on a sporting front although the Lorne Football and Netball Club will not have any footballers playing finals for the first time in a number of years, our netballers will be well represented at the weekend.
Our A Grade netballers experiencing September action after a long delay and our Under 15’s continuing their great form. Our A Grade side take on arch rivals whilst our Under 15’s meet South Colac – good luck girls!!!
